Brian Hanna is from Springfield, Oregon and has been teaching in the Lincoln County School District since the fall of 1996, where he teaches Advanced Math and Physics at Newport High School. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from Brigham Young University, a Master of Arts in Teaching in Science Education and a Master of Science Degree in Physics from Oregon State University. Jody Hanna grew up in Dundee, Oregon and moved to Newport in 1993 to teach sixth grade at Newport Middle School. She thought she had moved to the end of the earth and only planned to stay one year. Instead, she fell in love, with her husband and the community and they decided to stay in Newport, where they have now raised their five children. Jody earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Brigham Young University and a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Portland State University. She is the Artistic Director for Coastal Act Productions, which she helped create in 2004 and has been involved in theatre for over 35 years. She currently teaches Theatre at Newport High School. She also serves on the OCCA Board of Directors. While Brian and Jody each took a dance class in college, they are not formally trained. They love to dance with each other and enjoy attending the yearly NHS Jazz Band Dance. They are excited for this opportunity to participate in Dancing with the Coastal Stars to raise money for Samaritan House. “As educators and parents, we fully support this worthy cause to help children and families. It is important to teach our children to give back to their community and to serve others with love and compassion.”
